Seijin shiki (成人式) is the Japanese coming-of-age ceremony. It is held annually on Coming-of-Age Day (成人の日, seijin no hi?), the second Monday in January. Festivities include ceremonies held at local and prefectural offices and parties amongst family and friends to celebrate passage into adulthood.

Twenty is the age of majority in Japan, and people who have reached this age are subject to adult laws and gain the right to vote in elections as well as to drink.

Women celebrate the day by donning furisode kimono, which are kimono in which the portions which hang from the sleeves are long as compared to the kimono with shorter sleeve portions worn by mature, married women. Some women will add hakama (baggy pantaloons) to the ensemble. Most young woman cannot put on a kimono themselves, and go to a kimono kitsuke who dresses them. They also go to a hair stylists to have their hair set the day before or early in the morning.

Many women rent their kimonos because of the cost of buying one. A Japanese kimono can cost as much as a new car, so this is quite understandable.

It was my first time wearing kimono and I got a bit tired.Even so,I was delighted that i was able to celebrate my Adult Day in Japan coz i had never imagined that.I had lot of pictures myself wearing kimono.

Mount Aso is the largest active volcano in Japan, and is among the largest in the world. It stands in Kumamoto Prefecture, on the island of Kyushu. Its peak is 1592 m above sea level. Its caldera is 25 km across north to south and 18 km across east to west. The caldera has a circumference of around 120 km (75 miles), although sources vary on the exact distance.

I went there again last winter holiday ..we stayed one night in aso,not aso mountain.hehe.
There i met Ayusofiah Ayukawa..
SubhaanAllah a Japanese Muslim...and her son,Kei can,,all the way from Kochi,Shikoku,Japan...Well,it`s far from here!

~what a beautiful "encounter".Till we meet again..

Do u still contact ayusofiah ayukawa? I had a japanese muslim friend by tht name. I emailed her after d earthquake but she hasn't reply. I'm not even sure if tis is d same person but, I have to try. Thx Mon 21-Mar-2011 06:43
